Regent Kicks Off Fall Break With Game At Virginia State

Petersburg, VA – While most students were back at home for Fall Break this week, the Regent University Women's Soccer team hit the road for a short trip up I-64 West for a match-up with Virginia State University.  This would be the first meeting between the two young programs and the first time the Royals have faced a NCAA DII team this season.

Sophomore Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) picked up where she left off Saturday, making two big saves in the first few minutes of the half.  Eventually, that good defense opened up the offense as Freshman Jordana Foose (Chesterfield, VA) ran past a defender, but the Trojan keeper was able to get a hand on the shot.  Unfortunately, a few minutes later, at the 30:14-mark, VSU found a way to curve a corner kick into the net to take the early lead, 1-0.  That advantage would increase to three goals after the Trojans converted a penalty kick and a shot from 20 yards out to send the game into the half, with Regent trailing 3-0.

The second half began with the Royals looking to gain momentum, as they started to pressure the VSU defense.  It began to pay off as Junior Marissa Crawley (Charlotte, NC) and Sophomore Anna Teague (Salisbury, NC) were able to fire off shots at the Trojan goal.  For the next 20 minutes, both teams would go up and down the field trying to create scoring opportunities.  However, as the clock hit zero, Regent would fall by a final score of 3-0.

The Royals finished the game with five total shots, four of them on goal.  In addition, they attempted three corner kicks, while Miller had eight saves on the day.

Regent will be back in action on Wednesday, October 23rd when they travel south to face North Carolina Wesleyan University.  Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
