Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Royals battle on the road with Virginia State University

Petersburg, VA - On Tuesday afternoon, the Regent University Men's Soccer team played it's third straight road game of their young season.  Today, the Royals took a short drive west to face an upstart Virginia State University program.  After, two physical games this past weekend, Regent was prepared to play up a few levels, as the Trojans are NCAA Division II and CIAA members.  Both teams were able to spread the field and create scoring chances, while the defenses held strong to limit those offensive opportunities.

After a first half Virginia State goal, Junior Graylan Gill (Hanover, VA) crossed a corner kick to Freshman Isaiah Morris (Harrisonburg, VA), who found the net to tie the game and send the teams into halftime, 1-1.  The second half saw both teams making runs, but a late Trojan penalty kick decided the game, with the Royals falling by a final score of 2-1.

Sophomore Goalie Conner Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) turned away six shots, with the team blocking one, for a total of seven saves and Regent was successful on 1-3 corner kicks.

The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, September 4th, as they travel down Route 17 to face Mid-Atlantic Christian University in Elizabeth City, NC.  Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
