Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Regent and Randolph-Macon play tight game under the lights

Norfolk, VA - All off season, the talk around the Regent University Men's Soccer team was the upgrade in scheduling.  This year the Royals would face a number of NCAA Division III schools, in addition to Division I and II teams.  Earlier in the season, Regent earned wins over two Division III schools, which is something the program had never accomplished in a single season.  To earn a third victory, they would have to beat one of the top teams in the ODAC Conference, as Randolph-Macon College came to town on Saturday night.  The two teams met last year, with the Yellow Jackets winning, however, this year's Royals team is much improved and they were eager to show it in front of a large, vocal crowd.

Regent did not waste anytime, as they went toe-to-toe with R-MC in the first half.  Graduate Student Cameron Laubach (Millville, PA) anchored the defense, which set up opportunities for the offense to make some runs, while Junior Graylan Gill (Hanover, VA) led the way by spreading the ball around.  Both teams would try to capitalize on scoring chances, but heading into halftime the score was tied 0-0.  However, two minutes into the second half, the Yellow Jackets were able to breakthrough to take the lead.  Even though they fell behind, the Royals continued to push and, on two occasions, almost tied things back up.  In the end though, they were not be able to get a ball past the R-MC keeper and would fall by a final score of 1-0.

Saturday night's effort was one of the best this season by Regent.  They will look to duplicate that when they return to action on Thursday, September 26th as they host North Carolina Wesleyan University.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
