Norfolk, VA - A few weeks ago, a stopped train delayed the start of the Regent University Women's Volleyball team match and today it would be a leak in the main gym at Norfolk Christian. However, the Royals improvised and moved the match-up with Clinton College to the old gym as the fans packed the bleachers for the crucial NCCAA South Region contest. This was the third time the two teams have faced each other this season, with each winning one. The winner of this game would have a leg up in the South Region standings, so Regent was hoping to hold serve on their home court. The Royals started the match strong by taking the first set 25-17, but would fall in the next three and drop the match to the Golden Bears by a final score of 3-1.
Sophomore
Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) continued her dominance at the net, finishing the game with 18 kills, while Senior
Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) finished with 13 kills. Saunders also recorded three service aces with 13 digs and Senior
Shaley Wertz (Kansas City, MO) dished out 30 assists. In addition, Junior
Brielle Peltonen (Virginia Beach, VA) came off the bench to finish with a team high 14 digs.
Regent will be back in action on Saturday, September 28th when they travel to Front Royal, VA for a tri-match with Christendom College and Mid-Atlantic Christian University. First serve is scheduled for 12:00pm.
