Front Royal, VA - After a week off from competition, the Regent University Women's Volleyball Team saw this weekend as an opportunity to regroup and get back in the win column. In a few short hours, they would accomplish their goal, by putting together two dominate performances. Both matches showcased the offensive power Regent possesses, as they came away with the tri-match sweep.
Game One
The Royals would first face the host team, Christendom College. They wasted no time controlling the momentum, as they cruised to a first set win, 25-12. The next set was much tighter, as the Crusaders kept it close, but Regent kept their composure to pull the set out, 25-21. The Royals would close the match out in style, winning the third and final set, 25-12, for the sweep 3-0.
Sophomore
Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) led Regent with 14 kills, to go along with her 14 digs. In addition, Senior
Shaley Wertz (Kansas City, MO) dished out a team high 27 assists and recorded 10 digs, while Senior
Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) finished the game with 10 kills. At the service line, the Royals recorded 14 services aces with Junior
Brielle Peltonen (Virginia Beach, VA) and Freshman
Alaina Braun-Duin (Richmond, VA) leading the way with four a piece.
Game Two
Regent carried over their solid play to the match against Mid-Atlantic Christian University as they, once again, won the first set easily, 25-7. They did not let up in the second set, but would have to fight off a stubborn Mustang team to get the win, 25-14. The Royals would close things out in the third set, 25-12, to earn their second sweep of the day, 3-0.
Once again, Saunders led Regent with 12 kills, while Wertz led the team again by dishing out 19 assists and serving up three aces. In addition, Freshman
Kathryn Morgan (Richmond, VA) also had three service aces and Braun-Duin and Banister finished with 15 kills between them.
The Royals will be back in action on Tuesday, October 1st, when they host Washington Adventist University. First serve is scheduled for 6:00pm.
