Salisbury, NC - The Regent University Women's Volleyball team began a weekend road trip through the Carolinas on Friday afternoon at Livingstone College. The match would be a big test for the Royals as they were facing a Blue Bears team that is an NCAA Division II and CIAA member. However, Regent would come into New Trent Gym determined and not fazed by their opponent. After dropping the first set 25-16, the Royals settled down and earned a hard fought second set win, 25-23. The third set saw Livingstone take back the advantage by prevailing 25-15 and, in a close fourth se,t Regent would ultimately fall 25-21, allowing the Blue Bears to take the match by a final score of 25-21.
Sophomore
Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) led the Royals with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Senior
Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) finished with 5 blocks. Freshman
Kathryn Morgan (Richmond, VA) recorded 2 service aces and Senior
Shaley Wertz (Kansas City, MO) dished out a total of 17 assists. As a team, Regent had 34 kills, 5 aces, 6 blocks, 33 assists and 65 digs.
The Royals will be back in action tomorrow as they cross the border into South Carolina to face Clinton College and Johnson & Wales University in a tri-match. First serve is scheduled for 1:00pm.
