Virginia Beach, VA - The Regent University Royals Men's Basketball team began their extended holiday weekend by hosting fellow NCCAA South Region member Carolina University. The Royals were fresh off their two-game winning streak, while the Bruins also headed into the game with a three-game winning streak. However, one team's streak would end today as the Regent looked to continue their undefeated 2025 portion of the season with another win.
The Royals defensive pressure was felt from the first seconds of the half. Throughout the season, their pressure on the defensive side has been evident every game. Regent has averaged nearly 10 steals a game and that has been a steady statistic all season long. Junior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA), the Royals all-time leading scorer, was able to get the offense going with a corner three off a long pass from Sophomore Brendan Goods (Long Beach, CA). However, countered and went on a quick run to gain the lead. While they were able to create a few steals and blocks on the defensive end, Regent headed into the locker room trailing 55-31.
The second half saw the Royals attempt to mount a successful comeback as Clark found his rhythm on the offensive end of court. In addition, Freshman Anthony Chenault (Chesapeake, VA), a recent addition to the roster, had his best game of his young collegiate career as he was able to drive to the basket and also get to the free throw line. However, it would not be enough as Regent fell by a final score of 98-63.
Clark finished with 21 points, while going 6-8 from the free throw line. In addition, Chenault scored a career high 17 points to go along with his 3 rebounds.
The Royals will be back in action on Monday, January 20th when they host Christendom College int he second game of a doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
