Virginia Beach, VA - The Regent University Men's Basketball team welcomed in Christendom College Monday night for their fourth game of a five game home-stand. The Crusaders are members of the USCAA but are no strangers to the Royals. With the students back on Campus, the home court advantage was evident as they created a hostile atmosphere, which included the famous Regent drum.
The Royals wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Sophomore Micah Eastman (Virginia Beach, VA) began the game with a three pointer from the wing. Junior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) drained another three from the opposite wing, and Sophomore Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) continued the streak with a three from the top of the key. Clark pushed Regent ahead with back-to-back threes from the wing, which forced Christendom to take their first timeout. Later in the half, Junior Anthony Chenault (Portsmouth, VA) consistently found his way to the free throw line and was responsible for putting the Royals above the 40-point threshold. Offensively, this was one of the Royals's best halves of the season as they headed into the locker room leading by 15 points, 49-34.
The second half began with Clark sinking a mid-range fade-away over a much taller defender with the shot clock expiring. Regent's press defense began to cause problems for the Crusaders, forcing them into turnovers and missed shots. Eventually, Chenault added another three and converted a reverse layup to put the Royals up 17 points. A few possessions later, Chenault found Eastman for a reverse layup which pushed the Royals past the 70-point mark. Regent did not let up on their offensive pressure and would tie their largest win margin of the season, coming away with their third win in four games, 80-68.
In just his third game of the season, Chenault finished with a team high 19 points, while Clark and Eastman each added 15 points. In addition, Brown finished with 14 points, while Junior Joshua Vogt (Rochester, NY) grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Royals will be back in action on Thursday, January 23rd, when they welcome in Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
