Norfolk, VA - The Regent University Men's Soccer team welcomed in Virginia State University on Saturday afternoon for what has become a rivalry game over the past two years. The last few games have been physical and today would be no different. In addition, the Royals have been on the road the last few weeks, so they were anxious to finally get to play again in front of the home crowd.
The Trojans took an early lead in the first half at the 22:08 mark, but Regent quickly answered when Senior Graylan Gill (Beaverdam, VA) found fellow Senior Drew Thomas (Lynchburg, VA) in front of the net to tie the game at 1-1. However, Virginia State would once again grab the advantage and at the half the Royals trailed 2-1. The second half saw both teams push the ball on the offensive end, and it paid off when Junior Yann-Olivier Kamga (Woodbridge, VA) found the back of the net to even the game up, and that is how it would end with the score tied 2-2.
With his goal, Kamga is now tied for the Regent single season and all-time scoring records. In addition, Thomas and Gill combined for a goal for the third time this season.
The Royals will be back in action on Monday, October 20th when they host Lancaster Bible College. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm.
