Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Early Service Aces Set The Tone In Royals Sweep Over MACU

Norfolk, VA - While this season's Regent University Women's Volleyball team has some returning veteran's, they are actually considered a young team with the number of Freshman and Sophomores on their roster.  As the Royals move their way up in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference standings, Coach Katelyn Tothwerow has tried to create rotations that allow some of her young players the opportunity to get on the court in game situations.  Tonight's match-up with Mid Atlantic Christian University presented that opportunity as all Regent players were able see quality playing time, as they earned their third sweep in a row, with a win over the Mustangs, 3-0..

The first set began with two strong kills from Senior Eliana Winn (Albuquerque, NM) and Junior Erin Saunders (Danville, VA), while Freshman Rylee Stewart (Newport News, VA) controlled the service line for the Royals.  Winn and Saunders continued to score points at the net, as did Sophomore Alaina Braun-Duin (Stephens City, VA).  With the score tied, Freshman Emma Kristiansen (Sparta, NJ) delivered two crucial.service aces which began a seven to one run and Saunders finished it of with seven straight points off her serve as Regent would win the set, 25-11.  The second set saw Braun-Duin and Winn produce most of the points as Stewart was able to set them up for numerous kills.  That allowed Junior Reagan Holestin (Virginia Beach, VA) to come in and serve out the set for the win, 25-10.  A new lineup came in for the Royals as the third set began and Freshman Keira Anderson (Leland, NC) wasted no time making her presence known as she delivered a kill off a Senior Brielle Peltonen (Virginia Beach, VA) assist.  The combination of fellow Freshmen Brooklynn Delane (Colonial Beach, VA), Daily Davis (Bristow, VA and Kristiansen kept the momentum going and that eventually allowed Peltonen to serve out the final five points giving Regent the overall win 3-0 (25-14).

Winn finished with 10 kills and 3 blocks, while Brauin-Duin added 7 kills, 9 digs and 1 block.  In addition, Stewart dished out 20 total assists and Sophomore Madison Hardiman (Memphis, TN) led the team with 11 digs.  As a team, the Royals had a total of 11 service aces and 58 digs.

Regent will be back in action on Saturday, October 21st when they travel to Lynchburg, VA for a tri-match with Sweet Briar College and Randolph College.  First serves are scheduled for 1:00pm amd 3:00pm.
