Royals And NC Wesleyan Meet In Early Season Re-Match

Virginia Beach, VA – In a rematch from two weeks ago, the Regent University Men's Basketball team hosted North Carolina Wesleyan University in the second game of a Wednesday night doubleheader.  After falling to the Battling Bishops in Rocky Mount in the first match-up, the Royals put together a stronger performance but ultimately fell by a final score of 91-77.

Regent displayed a balanced offensive attack, highlighted by 22 points from Senior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA), including a pair of three-pointers and several strong drives to the basket. Junior Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) added 13 points and 3 rebounds, while Junior Dorian Tema (Frederick, MD) contributed 11 points and 6 boards, creating an impact in the paint.

Freshman Joshua Hanna (Chesterfield, VA) continued his steady play on both ends, with 10 points and 6 rebounds, while adding 3 assists. Sophomore Ichi Layne (Middlesex, VA) provided a spark off the bench, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to tally 9 points in just 15 minutes on the court.

The Royals trailed 45–38 at halftime but kept the game within reach through much of the second half. Regent shot efficiently from the line, hitting 72% of their free throws (18-of-25), and moved the ball well with 18 assists as a team, which was one of their season highs.

Defensively, Regent showed strong effort under the rim, totaling 31 rebounds (11 offensive), and blocked 3 shots, with Freshman Jaxson Delane (Colonial Beach, VA) leading the way with two of his own.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, December 13th when they travel to North Carolina to face Methodist University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
