Beuna Vista, VA – For the final time in 2025, the Regent University Men's Basketball team hopped on a bus for a midweek trip to Southern Virginia University. This would represent the third straight road game for the Royals, and they were looking to close out the first half of the season on a positive note. Even though they have continued to fight through injuries, the bench has risen to the occasion, and Regent was hoping to get that some solid production against the Knights.
The Royals came out strong in the first half, posting 43 points behind sharp three-point shooting and solid ball movement that produced 15 assists on the night. Regent also had success at the free-throw line, converting 21 of 28 attempts (75%), one of their best this season. They were able to pull to within six points of Southern Virginia on a few occasions but would ultimately fall by a final score of 95-77.
Junior Dorian Tema (Frederick, MD) led the way with career high 23 points to go along with 8 rebounds, and a program single game record 4 blocks, setting the tone for the Royals on both ends of the court. Tema was efficient inside, shooting 8-for-10 from the field and 6-of-8 at the free-throw line. Sophomore Ichi Layne (Middlesex, VA) continued his strong play from the perimeter, adding a career high 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Senior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) contributed 11 points and 2 assists, while Freshman Grant Worley (Chesapeake, VA) provided a spark off the bench with 7 points. Junior Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) turned in a steady defensive effort with 3 steals and 3 rebounds in his 21 minutes of play.
Regent will take time off for the Christmas break and be back in action on Saturday, January 3rd when they host Penn State-Altoona. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
