Virginia Beach, VA – In the second game of a Saturday doubleheader, the Regent University Men's Basketball team hosted Toccoa Falls College. In a game that saw the Royals fight their way back, they would come within seconds of earning the win, but despite a strong offensive performance and late-game surge, Regent would fall by a final score of 75-73.
Both teams traded baskets and momentum throughout the first half, with the score tied ten times and each side holding eight separate leads. Neither team was able to distance themselves, and at the half, the Royals only trailed 43-40.
In the second half, Regent continued to battle behind an inspired offensive showing from Senior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) who poured in a game-high 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting while adding 5 assists and four rebounds. Clark's ability to create shots both at the rim and beyond the arc kept Regent within striking distance all night.
Supporting Clark was Freshman Grant Worley (Chesapeake, VA), who contributed 13 points and 4 assists, including several key baskets to keep the game within one possession late in the second half. Freshman Joshua Hanna (Chesterfield, VA) added a spark connecting on all three of his three-point attempts to finish with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Inside, Junior Dorian Tema (Frederick, MD) gave the Royals toughness in the paint with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and a block, while Freshman Darcy Minega (Kigali, Rwanda) added 7 points and 3 rebounds, including an early triple that helped set the tone in the opening minutes.
As a team, Regent shot 47% from the field (26-of-55) and 44% from three-point range (8-of-18), while holding Toccoa Falls to similar efficiency.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, December 10th when they host North Carolina Wesleyan University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
