Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Campbell And Yawn Set Program Records As Regent Cruises To Win Over St. Andrews

Norfolk, VA - Graduate Students Aaron Campbell (Virginia Beach, VA) and Colby Yawn (Chesapeake, VA) combined to both set single-game program records as the Regent University Men's Volleyball team earned their first home win, defeating Saint Andrews University by a score of 3-1.  It was a match that saw a big momentum switch, as the Royals kept their composure to come away with their second win in three outings.  While Campbell and Yawn led the offense, Regent had a number of contributors who have begun to find their rhythm and it showed tonight in front of the home fans.

The first set began as a back-in-forth affair and after a Junior Aubrey Flora (Chesapeake, VA) kill the score was tied at 11-11.  Eventually, the Royals were able to take a three-point lead after two kills by Campbell, but the Knights would seize the momentum and fight off a match point to win the set 30-28.  However, in the second set, Regent settled down and jumped out to a nine-point advantage behind the serving of Yawn and kills by Campbell, Junior Keith Larkin (Snohomish, WA) and Junior Lucas Whitman (Suffolk, VA).  Their lead would increase to 12 points, after a kill from Freshman Joshua Bissell (Dillsburg, VA) and then Yawn ended the set with his own kill for the win 25-14.

The third (25-13) and fourth (25-15) sets saw Campbell, Larkin and Whitman continue to provide points at the net, while Freshman Theydon Roles (King George, VA) came off the bench to generate points through his serve, while recording his first ace of his collegiate career.  In addition, Freshman Preston Nemeti (Burke, VA) provided a spark with a number of kills, while Sophomore Ariel Downer (Spring Lake, NC) put on a show with his digs from all over the court.  To close things out, Yawn and Roles came up with a big block to secure the win.

Campbell finished with a program single-game record 22 kills, while Yawn broke the single-game record with 38 assists.  In addition, Yawn recorded 4 aces and Downer led the team with a total of 13 digs.

The Royals will be back in action on Tuesday, March 25th when they host Averett University.  First Serve is scheduled for 6:00pm.
