Lynchburg, VA – It has been a long week on the road for the Regent University Women's Soccer team, but before heading back to the Beach, they had one more game on their itinerary. Saturday afternoon found the Royals back in the Commonwealth of Virginia for a match-up with Randolph College. After finishing the Georgia swing 1-1, Regent was looking to bring back another win to the 757.
Junior Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) stood tall in the goal for the entirety of the first half, not allowing a shot past her and Junior Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, MD) was able to direct the offense each time Regent crossed midfield. It would prove to be one of the best defensive halves of the season as both teams entered the intermission with the score tied, 0-0. The second half saw Miller continue to make crucial saves, while Junior Rhyan Primmer (Stafford, VA) and Sophomore Serenity Cortez (Fresno, CA) anchored a defense that was able to turn the Wildcats away. Unfortunately, with 12:38 remaining, Randolph was able to get one past Miller for the first goal of the game and then added a second with 6:05 on the clock. That would be all of the scoring and as the final horn sounded, the Royals fell by a final score of 2-0.
Miller finished the game with 16 saves, which is one behind her school record. Regent will be back in action when they return home on Wednesday, September 17th as they host William Peace University at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
