Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Royals Face Christopher Newport For First Time In Program History

Newport News, VA – All week long the Regent University Women's Volleyball team and its Coaching Staff preached the word "Respect".  As the newest members of the NCAA and Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, the Royals came into Saturday evening's match with Christopher Newport University looking for an opportunity to prove they were a contender in the conference.  The Captains have a strong volleyball tradition but it was important, no matter win or lose, that Regent left the Peninsula making a statement.

While the match score did not have the outcome Regent wanted, the Royals did achieve one of their goals of proving they were to be involved in the Coast-To-Coast conversation. Sometimes the scoreboard does not reflect the effort given on the court and that was the case tonight.  The Royals showed the effort that has propelled them this season into the top portion of the Conference standings. While the first two sets did not have the offense they wanted, it was the third set that showcased Regent's point making abilities.  The freshmen portion of the roster played in what was one of the toughest games of their first season and that experience will prepare them for the remainder of the year.  The upperclassmen have been here before and played on a national stage, but today's match will prepare them even more for the road to California.

Junior Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) led the way for the Royals finishing with 8 kills and one service ace.  In addition, Freshman Rylee Stewart (Newport News, VA) dished out a total of 14 assists.

Regent will be back in action on Saturday, October 4th when they host Trinity Washington University and Eastern Mennonite University in a tri-match.  First serve is scheduled for 12:00pm.
