Fredericksburg, VA – For the first time in program history, the Regent University Men's Basketball team faced the #6 ranked team in the country as they visited fellow Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference member, the University of Mary Washington. The Eagles would be the best team the Royals faced all year, but they came in the game looking to slow the pace down. Despite the final score of 84-58, Regent battled throughout, particularly in the second half where they outscored Mary Washington 36-35, while knocking down 6 of 15 three-pointers.
The biggest highlight of the afternoon for the Royals, however, belonged to Senior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA). In a historic moment for Regent Athletics, Clark became the first player in program history to reach 1,000 career points as he led the Royals with 11 points (4-12 FG, 2-6 3PT), and 3 assists.
Senior Joshua Vogt (Rochester, NY) came off the bench to score 9 points, including a pair of big second-half threes, while fellow Senior Brendan Goods (Melbourne, FL) added 7 points, and Sophomore Chauncey Gilliam finished with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. In addition, the Regent bench provided 27 points on the day.
The Royals will return home on Wednesday, January 21st as they host Christendom College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
