Norfolk, VA - Despite the the cold temperatures and rain, the Regent University Men's Soccer team did not let that interfere with their celebrate of their four Seniors,
Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA),
Lucas Prendergast (Virginia Beach, VA),
Trevor Grosch (Chesapeake, VA) and
Isaac Milla (Chesapeake, VA). These four have not only impressed on the pitch but have also excelled in their studies, demonstrating that they are true student-athletes and prepared to be Christian Leaders to Change the World. Today they showed that leadership on the field as they faced fellow Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference member Warren Wilson College.
After Junior Melvin Maldonado (Annadale, VA) opened the scoring in the 15th minute, the Owls responded with three unanswered goals to build a 4-1 lead early in the second half. However, the Royals mounted a strong comeback as Maldonado found the net again in the 61st minute, and then Freshman Jacobo Hoyos (Virginia Beach, VA) added a third goal just over 10 minutes later to pull Regent within one. The Royals continued pressing in the final stretch but were unable to complete the rally before time expired and would fall by a final score of 4-3.
Regent outshot Warren Wilson by a margin of 15-12 and attempted eight corner kicks. Maldonado led the way with two goals, while Freshman David Gillespie (Odessa, FL) finished with five shots. Â
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, October 24th when they travel to Maryland to face Salisbury University. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
