Salisbury, MD – As the regular season begins to wrap up, the Regent University Men's Soccer team still had some unfinished business to take care of as they traveled to the Eastern Shore to face fellow Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference member and nationally ranked Salisbury University. Saturday's game would be a tale of two halves, as the Royals fell behind early in the first, but pitched a shutout in the second. However, in the end they would fall to the Seagulls by a final score of 5-0.
After falling behind in the first 45 minutes, Regent regrouped at halftime and delivered a much tighter second-half performance. The Royals limited Salisbury's attack to zero goals after the break, with Senior Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) making several key stops before giving way to Freshman Lucas Berdecio (Chesapeake, VA) late in the contest. Henriques finished with seven saves, while Berdecio added one more in relief.
Offensively, Regent created a handful of opportunities as Junior Melvin Maldonado (Annadale, VA) and Freshman David Gillespie (Odessa, FL) both registered shots, while Freshman Jacobo Hoyos (Virginia Beach, VA) forced a late chance that went just wide. The Royals also earned four corner kicks on the afternoon.
Regent will be back in action on Tuesday, October 26th when they travel to Fredericksburg for a match-up with the University of Mary Washington. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
