Regent Opens First Conference Series With Win Over Johnson & Wales University

Virginia Beach, VA - On a chilly Friday night, the Regent University Baseball team hosted its first ever Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference series against fellow first year program Johnson & Wales University.  The Royals controlled the game from start to finish as they dominated offensively, while Junior Will Maloney (Midlothian, VA) got the job done on the mound.  Regent would score two runs in the first inning, five more in the second and then six runs in the fourth inning to earn the program's first ever conference win defeating the Wildcats by a final score of 13-1.

Sophomore Maddox German (Fairfax, VA) led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. His two-run homer in the second inning highlighted a big frame for the Royals. Freshman Nathan Vaughan (Mechanicsville, VA) contributed a 2-for-4 effort with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base, while Junior Jayden Alvarez (Newport News, VA) added a single, two RBIs, two runs, and a walk.  In addition, Freshman Dylan Oblepias (Katy, TX) chipped in with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs as Junior Ben Tweedy (Altavista, VA) delivered a key two-RBI triple in the fourth. Overall, Regent finished with 10 hits and took advantage of two Johnson & Wales errors.

On the mound, Maloney (4-1) was outstanding, tossing five strong innings while allowing just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk, keeping the Wildcats off balance all night. Fellow Freshman Russel Clark (Newport News, VA) and Isaiah Thomas (Chesterfield, VA) followed with scoreless relief appearances to close out the game.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, March 28th as they close out the series against Johnson & Wales with a doubleheader.  First pitch is at 12:30pm.
