Danville, VA – After a successful weekend, the Regent University Baseball team kicked off a busy weekend Monday afternoon, in a non-conference match-up with Averett University. This was the first time the Royals have made the trip to the River City, and they were hoping to head back home with their second win over an ODAC school.
Regent took advantage of their first two batters getting aboard in the first inning when Sophomore Maddox German (Fairfax) drove in Freshman Nathan Vaughan (Mechanicsville, VA) to take the early one run lead. Unfortunately, the Cougars were able to answer in the next two innings to take the lead, 3-1. Freshman Keegan Hager (North Chesterfield, VA) attempted to jump start the offense as he lined a double into the outfield, however the Royals were unable to capitalize and would fall by a final score of 7-1.
Hager finished 2-3 from the plate with a double, while German was 1-3 with an RBI. In addition, Junior Elijah Clarke (Newport News, VA) got the start on the mound and struck out four batters.
Regent will be back in action on Wednesday, April 1st when they host Virginia Peninsula Community College. First pitch is at 6:30pm.
