Virginia Beach, VA - On Thursday night, the Regent University Baseball team began a five game weekend home stand as they welcomed in Hampden-Sydney College out of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. While most of the campus was preparing to leave for Spring Break, the Royals had their sights set on beating a Tigers program that has an NCAA Division III World Series appearance in their history. The Royals were only seven games into their inaugural season, but their offense has been producing hits and runs, which is what they would look to do to support their starting pitcher Freshman
James Blotter (Newport News, VA).
Regent wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, putting together a strong first inning to seize momentum. The Royals scored three runs in the first inning, when Freshman
Nathan Vaughan (Mechanicsville, VA) scored on a an error by the H-SC pitcher and then Sophomore
Maddox German (Fairfax, VA) and Freshman
Dylan Oblepias (Katy, TX) drove in back-to-back runs. Regent would get on the board again in the second inning when Vaughan hit a an RBI single, which scored Freshman
Raz Kolakovsky (San Diego, CA), while they continue to be aggressive on offense with Vaughan and Junior
Jayden Alvarez (Newport News, VA) each recording a stolen base. Unfortunately, the Royals were unable to mount a comeback and would fall by a final score of 8-4.
Vaughan led the team finishing 2-4 with an RBI and a run, while Freshman
Jordan Hunt (Virginia Beach, VA) went 1-4 with a run.
Regent will be back in action on Friday, March 6th when they start a four game series with a doubleheader against Berea College. First pitch is set for 6:30pm.
