Hampden-Sydney, VA - The Regent University Men's Soccer team opened its 2026 season on the road Tuesday evening, battling Hampden-Sydney College out of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Despite falling 7-0, the young Royals played a strong second half, as Regent continued to compete, finishing the match with seven shots, including two on goal.
The Royals held the Tigers scoreless for the opening 30 minutes of the second half, preventing the H-SC from adding to their lead and then Regent continued looking for opportunities offensively throughout the contest. Freshman Toby Tracht (Cantonsville, MD) was one of the Royals' most active players in the attacking third, finishing with a team-high three shots. He generated two attempts late in the opening half before adding another opportunity early in the second period. Fellow Freshmen Collin Pennington (Ocean City, MD) and David Gillespie (Odessa, Fl) each recorded a shot on goal, while Junior Melvin Maldonado (Annandale, VA) and Freshman Salvador Rendon (Chesapeake, VA) also contributed attempts for the Royals. In goal, Senior Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves, including four in the second half.
Regent will stay on the road and begin a two-day trip through Pennsylvania on Friday, September 4th, when they visit Neumann University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
