Rocky Mount, NC – After a delayed bus ride, the Regent University Men's Soccer team finally made it to the Tarheel State for a a late afternoon match-up with North Carolina Wesleyan University. This was the 4th game of a six-game road trip, which has seen the Royals travel up and down East Coast.
Getting his first start of his collegiate career, Freshman Sebastian Carmenates (McLean, VA) helped keep Regent within reach throughout the opening half, finishing the match with four saves in 90 minutes of action. The Royals increased their offensive pressure in the second half as Freshman Jacobo Hoyos (Virginia Beach, VA) put a shot on goal in the 53rd minute, forcing a save, before Freshman Collin Pennington (Ocean City, MD) came close to breaking through when his attempt struck the right post in the 57th minute.
Regent's persistence was rewarded late in the match when Freshman David Gillespie (Odessa, FL) put Regent on the board in the 83rd minute scoring his first collegiate goal (Penalty Kick), cutting the deficit to one. However, as the final horn sounded, the Royals would fall by a final score of 3-1.
Regent will continue their road stretch on Saturday, September 12th when they travel to Lynchburg, VA to face Randolph College. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
