Lynchburg, VA - The Regent University Men's Soccer team played their 5th straight road game on Saturday night as they faced Randolph College in a non-conference match-up. The game featured a second half that saw the Royals find their offensive footing, but eventually would fall by a final score of 2-1.
After falling behind by a goal at halftime, Regent began generating increased pressure in the second half, eventually breaking through in the 75th minute as Freshman Toby Tracht (Catonsville, MD) found the back of the net, cutting the Wildcat advantage to 2-1. The Royals continued to look for the equalizer when Tracht attempted another shot in the 81st minute before Regent earned back-to-back corner kicks. Fellow Freshmen John Adams (Chesapeake, VA) and Jack Houseknecht (Yorktown, VA) followed with scoring opportunities as the Royals continued to apply pressure. Regent's attack sped up in the closing minutes, earning three straight corner kicks, which were followed by attempts from Freshman Kent Moles (Stoneville, NC) and Freshman Jones Ferguson (San Antonio, TX), but the Royals were unable to find the tying goal before the final horn.
Regent finished with 10 shots, including seven in the second half, and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, including six after halftime. Ferguson led the Royals with three shots, while Tracht finished with two shots and a goal.
Regent will conclude their road trip when they travel to Staunton, VA on Wednesday, September 16th to face Mary Baldwin University. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30pm.
