Lauren Pond (Midlothian, VA) delivered a three-goal performance Friday night as the Regent University Women's Soccer team earned an dominant 4-1 victory over Agnes Scott College.
The Royals controlled the evening offensively, out shooting the Scotties 16-2 while putting eight attempts on goal. Regent also held Agnes Scott without a shot in the second half as the Royals secured their second victory of the season.
Pond wasted little time putting Regent in front. Just 4:58 into the contest, she found the back of the net off an assist from Senior Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, MD) to give the Royals an early 1-0 advantage. Regent continued to apply pressure, and Pond broke a 1-1 tie in the 32nd minute when Sophomore Kylie Gaines (Ramsuer, NC) provided the assist as Pond scored her second goal of the night to put the Royals back in front, 2-1. Just over four minutes later, she completed the hat trick in the 36th minute, extending Regent's advantage to 3-1. The Royals weren't finished as Freshman Victoria Hoffmann (Lewisville, TX) added another goal at the 43:15 mark to send Regent into halftime with a commanding 4-1 advantage. The four-goal first half proved more than enough as the Royals defense shut down the Scotties over the final 45 minutes. Pond led the offensive charge finishing the night with three goals on five shots, placing four on frame, while also recording the game-winning goal, while Hoffmann finished with a goal on four shots. In addition, Smullen and Gaines each recorded an assist in the win.
Regent will be back in action on Wednesday, September 23rd when they host Mid-Atlantic Christian University at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
