Regent Turns In Solid Performance At Virginia State

Petersburg, VA – While exams are just around the corner, the Regent University Men's and Women's Track & Field team traveled west on Route 460 to participate in the VSU Peggy Davis Memorial Invite at Virginia State University on Saturday,  With only a week remaining in the Outdoor Season, the Royals battled the rain to turn in another solid performance, as they saw more Personal Records set. 

The day began with the Javelin throw, as both Junior Lucas Hubbard (Newtown, PA) and Freshman Jaxon Sawyer (Virginia Beach, VA) made the finals.  Hubbard would finish the event with a throw of 38.92m, while Sawyer threw a Personal Record of 24.69m.  On the women's side, Sophomore Shylah Wells (Youngsville, NC) produced strong throws and set a Personal Record at 16.70m.  In the Shot Put, Junior Ernest Park III (Bentonville, AR) finished in 11th place with a throw of 9.93m and Sawyer set his second Personal Record of the day finishing at 8.44m.  To finish out the throw events, Junior Evan Pond (Powhatan, VA) led the way in the Discus with a throw of 26.57m, while Park recorded a throw of 23.42m.   

Over in the stadium area, Junior Kevin Cropper (Oak Hall, VA) completed the Long Jump with a distance of 5.72m, while Freshman Adam Baugus (Virginia Beach, VA) began the running events in the 100M, finishing with a time of 12.60.  Baugus would also compete in the 200m, along with Cropper, where they both set Personal Record as Baugus ran a time of 25.66 and Cropper came in at 24.69.  Wells would compete in the 100M Hurdles finishing with a time of 19.92, while Freshman Samantha Bodnar (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) set a Personal Record in the 1500M with a time of 5:40.75.  To round out the day Freshman Thomas Slingluff (Suffolk, VA) ran the 800M at 2:08.01 and the 1500M at 4:23.64.   

Regent will conclude their regular season on May 2nd and 3rd when they travel to North Carolina A&T to compete in the Aggie Classic.  The events start on Friday at 2:00pm.
