Virginia Beach, VA - After a nationwide search, Regent University Director of Athletics Michael W. Allen has announced the hiring of Donte Minter as the Royals' new Head Women's Basketball Coach. Minter is no stranger to the Regent sideline as he served as an assistant coach from 2021-2023 and he will reunite with some of his former players. Most recently, Minter served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II and CIAA member Livingstone College.
"We are pleased to announce Donte Minter as our new head women's basketball coach here at Regent University," said Allen. "I have worked with Donte in the past, when he first got into coaching, as well as him being our top women's assistant two seasons ago. With the experience he has acquired over the last decade, most recently down at Division 2 Livingstone College, coupled with his experience as a former Division 1 basketball player, he is the perfect fit to help move our women's basketball program to competitive heights. I know he is excited to not only lead our young women on the court, but off the court as well. He will challenge them in achieving excellence in all areas of their lives, while maintaining high integrity, and supporting the true mission of our university, which is to Create Christian Leaders to Change the World. We cannot wait for Donte to officially arrive on campus, where I know he will hit the ground running."
While at Livingstone College, Minter was responsible for creating practice plans and overseeing student-athlete study halls. In addition, he started the first Tipoff dinner for the program in 20 years and created the program's first ever endowment fund, while having a role in developing the CIAA Freshman of the Year. Prior to coaching in Maryland, Minter served as the top assistant at Regent where he was responsible for recruiting, budgets, conditioning, game strategies and basketball analytics.
Minter is also well known in the Hampton Roads area, as he was the Head Junior Varsity Men's Basketball Coach at Norfolk Christian School from 2014-2017 and served as an assistant coach at Salem High School during the 2014-2015 season.
Minter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University, where he also was a standout athlete for the Men's Basketball team.
