Virginia Beach, VA – On Friday, the Regent University Men's and Women's Track & Field teams were back at the Sports Center to compete in the Marlins Invitational. This was the third time the Royals have participated in a Meet in their home city, and it would be the last until the outdoor season.
The day began with Freshman Samantha Bodnar (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) competing in her first ever event for Regent. Bodnar would set a personal record in the 5000M finishing with a time of 25:04.53. Sophomore Shylah Wells (Youngsville, NC) would also set a personal record in the 60M Hurdles with a time of 12.55. A few events later Junior Donovan Allen (Manassas, VA) and Freshman Adam Baugus (Chesapeake, VA) ran the 60M with times of 7.70 and 8.12, and then the 200M at 24.84 and 27.28, while Freshman Thomas Slingluff (Suffolk, VA) finished the Mile Run at 4:49.19.
Running in her first event with Regent, Freshman Sophia Moritz (Virginia Beach, VA) set a personal record in the 60M finishing at 8.57 and another personal record in 200M with a time of 27.99. The trio of Slingluff, Junior Lucas Hubbard (Newtown, PA) and Junior Evan Pond (Powhatan, VA) each ran in the 800M with Slingluff setting a personal record with a time of 2:10.39, while Hubbard came in at 2:27.40 followed by Pond at 2:28.12. Allen, who was competing in his third event of the day, completed the Triple Jump with a distance of 11.81 and then Wells finished the Shot Put with a throw of 5.43.
To round out the day, Sophomore Aidan Kingsborough (Clarkston, VA) finished 17th in the Shot Put with a throw of 10.86 and he was followed by Hubbard at 8.05 and Pond at 7.75.
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, February 8th when they travel back to Lexington, VA for the VMI Winter Relays to close out the Indoor Season.
