Lexington, VA – On Saturday, the Regent University Men's and Women's Track & Field team concluded their indoor season at the VMI Winter Classic. It was one more opportunity for the Royals to set Personal Records and also prepare for the upcoming outdoor season. Each Meet this season; Regent has seen success from both its upperclassmen and this year's newcomers, and they would look to continue that today.
Sophomore Shylah Wells (Youngsville, NC) and Freshman Sophia Moritz (Virginia Beach, VA) kicked off the day competing in the Long Jump. Moritz would set a Personal Record with a distance of 4.42M, while Wells came in at 3.78M. The duo also ran in the 60M Hurdles, where they both set Personal Records with Moritz finishing with a time of 10.70 and Wells at 12.22. They would do it again in the 60M with Moritz setting a Personal Record with a time of 8.49 and Wells with a time of 9.34.
In the Men's Shot Put, Junior Lucas Hubbard (Newtown, PA) led the way, tying his Personal Record with a distance of 8.65M. In addition, Junior Evan Pond (Powhatan, VA) finished with a throw of 7.55, while Freshman Jaxon Sawyer (Virginia Beach, VA) set a Personal Record, throwing 7.07M. Junior Donovan Allen (Manassas, VA) would set a Personal Record in the 60M finishing with a time of 7.45, as Freshman Adam Baugus (Virginia Beach, VA) came in at 8.10 and then Allen completed the Triple Jump with a distance of 12.20M
To finish out the day, Freshman Thomas Slingluff (Suffolk, VA) completed the Mile Run with a time of 4:46.67, and set another Personal Record in the 3000M finishing at 9:45.39, while Allen and Baugus set a Personal Records in the 200M finishing at 23.82 and 26.56.
Now that the Royals have concluded their Indoor Season, they will turn their focus to the Outdoor Season. Regent will open that up on March 22nd in Virginia Beach at the Spring Break Invitational.
