Mount Olive, NC – Day One of the Trojan Relays produced a School Record for the Regent University Men's and Women's and Day Two would present the Royals with more opportunities for Personal Records, School Records and possibly another National Qualifier. While it was a chilly day, that did not prevent Coach Michael Rose and his team from competing at the highest level to once again deliver a record setting performance.
The Shot Put event got the day started as Sophomore Aidan Kingsborough (Clarkston, WA) led the way with a throw of 10.26M, which was followed by Junior Ernest Park III (Bentonville, AR) at 9.88M. In addition, Freshman Jaxon Sawyer (Virginia Beach, VA) finished the event with a throw of 6.68M. Freshman Jacob Winck (Breezewood, PA) finished 9th in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 18.74 and the 400M at 53:64, while Sophomore Shylah Wells (Youngsville, NC) completed the Long Jump with a distance of 3.70M, the Javelin with a throw of 12.98M and the Shot Put with a Personal Record throw of 6.13M. In the Men's 100M, fellow Freshmen Ryan Neves (Huntington Beach, CA) and Adam Baugus (Virginia Beach, VA) came in with times of 12.11 and 12.54 respectively, which was followed by a Top 10 finish by Freshman Thomas Slingluff (Suffolk, VA) in the 1500M with a School Record time of 4:23.75.
Junior Kevin Cropper (Oak Hall, VA) continues to have a great season in the High Jump, as he finished in 5th place with a height 1.90M and then in the Long Jump he finished with a distance of 6.05M. Meanwhile, in the discus, Kingsborough and Junior Evan Pond (Powhatan, VA) set personal records with throws of 32.76M and 32.03M, while Junior Lucas Hubbard (Newtown, PA) finished with a throw of 26.97M and Park came in at 23.04M. To finish out the day, a number of Regent throwers competed in the Javelin, with Kingsborough leading the way with a throw of 40.87M, Hubbard at 35.88M, Park at 33.48M, Pond at 25.05M and Sawyer with a Personal Best of 19.19M.
The Royals will be back in action on April 19th when they travel to Salisbury University to compete in the Eastern Shore Challenge. The action starts at 11:00am.
